Inside, the town bears testimony to a very ancient history, which dates back to 9th century b.C and, if you take a walk around the historical centre, all the subsequent historical periods stand distinctively apart, from the late Roma – Gothic to the Middle Ages, up the 19th century noblemen mansions and liberty details. ![]() Places to visit: The “Villa Abbas” Museum – some archaeological items founds in the territory of Sardara are on display here. The 9th century, well-shaped temple and the church of Saint Anastasia whose interior houses a second well. ![]() The church of Saint Gregorio Magno – 13th century – a fine example of the Romanic-Gothic style, with an elaborate, double lancet window placed in the transet behind the altar. The historical centre, with its arch portals, which often have sculptures of ancient crafts of the owners in their keystones. The Castle of Monreale – homestead of Eleonora d’Arborea during the battle of the “Giudicati”. The parish church of “Beata Vergine Assunta” – featuring 17th century wooden statues and a pipe organ which dates back to 1758. The parish church dedicated to “S. Antonio di Padova” – 17th century – with its characteristic and wonderful altarpiece made of wood and of Spanish influence. The thermal town of Saint Maria Aquas with Sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Saint Patron of the Diocese and the structures of the old Roman baths.
