Sardara: between thermal baths and archaeology.

It’s situated halfway along the road from Cagliari to Oristano, on the state road nr. 131, just 35 min. drive from Cagliari airport and 40 min. from its harbour.
Inside, the town bears testimony to a very ancient history, which dates back to 9th century b.C and, if you take a walk around the historical centre, all the subsequent historical periods stand distinctively apart, from the late Roma – Gothic to the Middle Ages, up the 19th century noblemen mansions and liberty details.Chiesa_S._Antonio_-_Sec._XVII Just outside the town, the SPA thermal baths, which began their activity as early as the 2nd century B.C., bear testimony to an important roman presence in these territories, which were called “Barn of Italy” at that time. Nowadays, two perfectly equipped premises provide you whit mud therapy and beauty farm services, boasting over 45,000 guest each year.

The church of Saint Gregorio Magno – 13th century – a fine example of the Romanic-Gothic style, with an elaborate, double lancet window placed in the transet behind the altar.
The historical centre, with its arch portals, which often have sculptures of ancient crafts of the owners in their keystones.
The Castle of Monreale – homestead of Eleonora d’Arborea during the battle of the “Giudicati”. The parish church of “Beata Vergine Assunta” – featuring 17th century wooden statues and a pipe organ which dates back to 1758. The parish church dedicated to “S. Antonio di Padova” – 17th century – with its characteristic and wonderful altarpiece made of wood and of Spanish influence.
